If you are getting married in Jersey County, you need to obtain your marriage license at the Jersey County Clerk’s office. Both parties must appear in person to make application, at least 24 hours, but not more than 60 days, before your wedding.

Click here to submit your application online. Both parties must visit our office in person to show photo ID and sign the application before a license can be issued.

Fee:
The Marriage License fee is $50, payable by cash, check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover. A $2 service fee is added to all credit/debit card transactions.

Age Requirement:
To be married in Illinois without parental consent, you must be at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18, both parents must sign a parental consent form in the County Clerk’s office and have a valid Driver’s License or State ID for identification at the time you apply for your license. If it is not possible for your parents to sign in our office, it may be done before the County Clerk in your parent’s county. If a parent is deceased, a death certificate, proof of guardianship, or court order waiving consent must be presented.

Return of License:
The officiant of the ceremony must return the license to the County Clerk’s office within 10 days after the marriage date. An envelope is provided for this purpose. If for any reason you are not married, it will be your responsibility to return the license to the County Clerk for filing. Under no circumstances should a license be destroyed after it is issued.
